What Is Camp Like?
At Camp Santa Maria, the experience begins the moment you turn off the highway and breathe in the fresh scent of the Ponderosa pines. Here, the digital noise of the world fades away, replaced by the sound of the rushing river and the laughter of new friends.
The “Santa Maria Experience” is a carefully curated journey designed to push campers just far enough outside their comfort zones to find their true capabilities.
Morning Spark
We start the day together. Whether it’s a morning assembly with songs or rousing cheers, we set the intention for the day after a hearty, healthy breakfast.
Skill Progression
Mornings are for growth. Campers learn a variety of skills—from archery and mountain biking to climbing and swimming. We seek progression in these skills, achieving confidence by pursuing improvement in both new and familiar skills.
Afternoon Surge
Following a restful, reflective period after lunch, the camp becomes even more alive, as campers engage in various activities in the bright sunshine of the Rocky Mountains, such as an afternoon hike or a refreshing dip in the pool or the on-site lake.
The Evening Glow
As the sun dips behind the peaks, we gather for our evening programs. Talent shows, camp games, like capture the flag, and campfires, create the setting for participation, community bonding, and introspection, instilling memories that campers will talk about for years.
Mountain Mastery
Hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and outdoor survival skills.
The Waterfront
Canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding at our on-site lake.
The Pool
A refreshing dip in the camp’s pool provides relief from the heat.
Creative Arts
Painting, music, and drama - because growth happens on the stage as much as on the trail.
Sports
Archery, swimming, and field/court sports that emphasize sportsmanship and teamwork over the scoreboard.
Increased Independence
A capable, self-assured spirit.
Lasting Friendships
Bonds forged through shared challenges and campfire stories.
A Refreshed Mindset
The peace and clarity that only a summer in the mountains can provide.
